Happy Thanksgiving 2015

Happy Thanksgiving!  I am thankful for all my family, my friends, and strangers who reach out with kindness on the days that we really need it.

My card this month is simple stamping, then cutting the image into two pieces - so glad I bought the My Favorite Things die to do this - it was not as easy to freehand cut as I thought.  The Hero Arts Shadow inks made the stamping so smooth and painless.

The Pillowcase Challenge

My dear aunt made pillowcases for her family and challenged us to color and complete by December 1st.  However, I really loved the black and white pattern with the red trim.  I just could not color this:

So, I scanned the fabric and printed it out.  Then I could color to my heart's content - just like I did when I was little.  As my aunt reminded me, my mother would carry coloring books in her purse to keep me happy and quiet as a little kid.

Here is what I ended up creating - a thank you card that is on its way to my aunt.  I even used the black and white copy of the trim from the pillowcase as a border.

Halloween 2015

It is the time of year for a little spooky fun, I have a bag full of Halloween candy and a costume!

I have been watching a lot of  "create a background with distress inks" videos, so decided to use all the pretty colors I own to try my hand at a holiday background.

While I am glad to use things I already own, I just got back from the Scrapbook Expo, and currently have a pile of "new items" to add to the already large stash I own.  I am ignoring the new stack piled up on the floor for now, but will have to deal with it today.

By the way, I am such a horrible fan girl, I met Stephanie Bernard from Stamps of Life at the expo.  Let us just say, I gushed, so embarrassing!

Craftsy Class - Catherine Pooler

Prior to packing up and moving, I purchased a Craftsy Class - a techniques class from Catherine Pooler.  Naturally, with the move, the purchase was forgotten and it just came to back to my memory this week.  I pulled out my box of unused stamps/dies and whatnot - it is actually several boxes now, as you can see below.  The angle of the photo is very flattering to the actual amount of stuff piled up, I will need to remember the angle for the next time I am in a photo!

I am enjoying Catherine's easy teaching style and learning to do so many new things or looking at old things from a different perspective.  I am only a little over half way through the class, but I cannot believe all the things I have done.  Thought I would share (but I cannot tell you how I made the cards, you will need to take the class and have Catherine show you)!  I also loaded another two cards to the Craftsy Project area, so much fun.

Happy Fall 2015

I cannot believe it is fall already - it sure does not feel that way in California.  Fortunately, the air has cleared a bit from all the fires, but it is still warm here, actually it is still hot.  Today was the last day of the Farmer's Market downtown, and yet, the farmers still have so much produce coming in; huge tomatoes, peaches, and nectarines are still perfect and plentiful.

The card today is very simple paper piecing and some stickles added at the end - it just needed a bit of bling - but of course I took the picture prior to the stickles.  So imagine copper stickles on the little flowers at the base of the mushrooms.

Sorry for the late posting, I upgraded to Windows 10 and Microsoft Edge does not play nice with Blogger, took awhile for a workaround (had to reload Google Chrome).

Welcome - California Admissions Day

On September 9th, California celebrates the anniversary of our admission to the United States of America.  From the beauty of the coasts and forests, to the "food basket" of the US,  to the unique people - Californians should be proud.

I created a simple card that celebrates all the beauty of CA without looking like a Beach Boy song.  The SEI Field Notes line provided some beautiful images and colors.  The challenge was printing the sentiments on the tags using the computer - not for the faint of heart, and I am sure there is an easier way.

I think next year I will have to do a salute to Kentucky, where so many of my family lives and where we called home.

Happy Friendship Day 2015

Happy Friendship Day on August 2nd!  For that matter, why don't we wish each other a happy friendship month!  Our lives are enhanced by friends each and everyday, and our lives suffer when we have no friends.  I am blessed because not only do I have some great friends, I also have family that I consider friends as well.  So shout out to my friends, and I appreciate every single one of you!

Today's card has lots of paper layers - even on the little farmer.

July 4th 2015

Happy 4th - I hope everyone enjoys cookouts and fireworks (and wears sunblock)!

For my 4th of July card, I decided to try a new technique - Iris Paper Folding.  It gives the impression similar to the iris of a camera - with paper layered over each other.  I used a template with numbered positions - guiding where the paper was placed.  I bought the template from Hot off the Press.  I thought it turned out very cute, but it is a weighty card requiring two stamps for mailing.

Father's Day 2015

Just a quick extra post this month.  I wanted to wish all involved fathers a very heartfelt Happy Father's Day!  Notice the word involved?  My father has been into being a father before he ever laid eyes on me, and he was involved in my like (sometimes more than I wanted him to be, especially when I was a teenager).  He was there to play, tease, argue, help with homework and generally harass me.  However, through it all, I always knew he had my back - kind of like the car commercial I keep seeing on television.

Today is another attempt at merging my love of card making with my new love, a used Cricut machine we (my dear friend Shelley, partner in craft hoarding) purchased from our friend Marissa.  It has, unfortunately, become a new addiction.

June 2015

Summertime is here, even if it is not official, the weather was 104 degrees yesterday!  This month's card is in honor of Kamehameha Day, June 11th.  Since I lived in Hawaii as a girl, it is fun to remember a little island history and the beauty that are the islands.

So when this month gets a little stressful, close your eyes and think of a beautiful beach, and listen for waves running onto the shore!

Mothers Day - Soar

I have not made a Mother's Day card in several years, but this year I was inspired to reach out to all my friends and family who are moms, or who have taken time out of their lives to mother me. A big thank you and hugs to all of you, your kindness touches my heart!

Happy Spring and Belated Easter

Not sure what happened but I forgot to post my April card.  I am sure with the move that some things got a bit hectic, but not being able to post once seems a bit of stretch.

My apologies - and happy spring (although it feels more like summer here)!

Happy March - Read a Book this Month

It has been a hectic month and I did not get this card posted in time - celebrating Read Across America Day on March 2nd.  I bought this stamp so long ago, mainly because it made me laugh and reminded me of a cat I once had - a very imperious looking animal (stealing the words of my friend Shauna).  I had no idea how to use the stamp until I discovered a holiday that matched - sheer kismet!

So happy March - for my family and friends that are freezing and to the ones in California that are "not enjoying" the heat and humidity!  By the way - I have moved, so hence the crazy month - and the preceding craft stuff giveaway!
