Day of the Dead 2014 - Dia de los Muertos

Day of the Dead is the time of year that many folks go to the cemetery and visit with their loved ones that have passed before them.  By placing flowers on their graves, and sitting and talking to them, we pay respects to our relatives and remember them in our hearts.

For today's card, I wanted vibrant colors and wanted to capture the sparkling, elaborate sugar skulls that you can buy in the markets (or for the talented, you can make your own).  I used the neon colored inks from Hero Arts to stamp the pattern on the card fronts.  Then I stamped my skulls on white cardstock, covered it in double sided adhesive, covered the whole sheet in ultra-fine glitter and then colored it with neon Copic markers.  I love the sparkle that my skulls ended up with, and hope the pictures do them justice.

Halloween 2014

I had such fun with the Wicked Witch stamp (especially the sentiment inside the card) - it made me chuckle.  Plus the coloring done on her could be a bit messy, since she had such a curly mess of hair and some of her parts were so tiny like her arms.  I mainly focused on putting some dimensional twists to her hat, using four different Copic colors in grey.  When I was done with the card, I could not help it, and had to add some bright green stickles to enhance her "do".
So may all your tricks turn out to be treats!  Happy Halloween!

More Playtime with Twinkling H2Os

I have another card that I had to share, and it all started with a simple piece of watercolor paper and a flower stamped in StazOn ink.   I pulled out the dozens of twinkling H2Os that I own and began splashing paint everywhere.  I love the beautiful metallic gold color, and I used a toothbrush dipped in the gold to splatter more of the sparkle around.  I had so much fun, I need to remember to keep things simple and just paint!

Another Day of Crafts and a Technique

It is too early in the month for my Halloween card (especially since I have not gotten them into the mail) - so I thought I would share a little experimenting that I have done with the Faber-Castell Big Brush Pens.  I had to have these ink pens in all different colors, so I purchased them, and then let them collect dust.  I was inspired by a Hot of Press Stamp Class II DVD to brush off the cobwebs and see what they can do.
