Happy New Year 2015

Happy New Year!  Each year starts with such excitement and hope - who knows what this year will bring.

To my friends and family - I wish the best for each of you and I made a card to let you know.

The paper is from the Capture line from Basic Grey, and the technique for the leaves was designed by Kelly Goree.  I am using the same technique for the "money tree" for my father's birthday - he is so hard to shop for (since he buys what he wants, when he wants it) - so a "money tree" is the perfect gift.

Merry Christmas 2014

A few months ago, I took a Christmas card class from the talented Julie Ebersole. She kept us so busy - we made over 16 cards during the class, and in the end I had scraps from all the cards and a partial bonus card that I started and did not finish in class.

This is the scrap card -part of it is Julie's design, part of it is just my inability to throw bits away.

May this month be filled with joy and laughter, may you not have to run to the shopping mall at the last minute and may all your baking turn out perfectly  As for me, I still need a recipe for the cookie exchange and cute packaging, so I am off surfing the web to find just the "right" treat!

Happy Thanksgiving 2014

Sometimes when things are not going well - whether it is work, family, friends or financial, it is hard to remember all the things that we are thankful for.  This season, it is important for me to remember all the things that are "right" in my life.

I am so thankful for my family, although they are not near, they are held dear to me.  I am thankful for my friendships, for both the friends that "knew me when" and the newer friends who "know me now".  I am thankful for having a job that pays my bills, and although it certainly is not my dream job, it does enable me to have a roof over my head and food on the table.
I send heartfelt thoughts out to each and everyone of my friends and family, may your thanksgiving be yummy, comforting and full of all the good things in life.

Day of the Dead 2014 - Dia de los Muertos

Day of the Dead is the time of year that many folks go to the cemetery and visit with their loved ones that have passed before them.  By placing flowers on their graves, and sitting and talking to them, we pay respects to our relatives and remember them in our hearts.

For today's card, I wanted vibrant colors and wanted to capture the sparkling, elaborate sugar skulls that you can buy in the markets (or for the talented, you can make your own).  I used the neon colored inks from Hero Arts to stamp the pattern on the card fronts.  Then I stamped my skulls on white cardstock, covered it in double sided adhesive, covered the whole sheet in ultra-fine glitter and then colored it with neon Copic markers.  I love the sparkle that my skulls ended up with, and hope the pictures do them justice.

Halloween 2014

I had such fun with the Wicked Witch stamp (especially the sentiment inside the card) - it made me chuckle.  Plus the coloring done on her could be a bit messy, since she had such a curly mess of hair and some of her parts were so tiny like her arms.  I mainly focused on putting some dimensional twists to her hat, using four different Copic colors in grey.  When I was done with the card, I could not help it, and had to add some bright green stickles to enhance her "do".
So may all your tricks turn out to be treats!  Happy Halloween!

More Playtime with Twinkling H2Os

I have another card that I had to share, and it all started with a simple piece of watercolor paper and a flower stamped in StazOn ink.   I pulled out the dozens of twinkling H2Os that I own and began splashing paint everywhere.  I love the beautiful metallic gold color, and I used a toothbrush dipped in the gold to splatter more of the sparkle around.  I had so much fun, I need to remember to keep things simple and just paint!

Another Day of Crafts and a Technique

It is too early in the month for my Halloween card (especially since I have not gotten them into the mail) - so I thought I would share a little experimenting that I have done with the Faber-Castell Big Brush Pens.  I had to have these ink pens in all different colors, so I purchased them, and then let them collect dust.  I was inspired by a Hot of Press Stamp Class II DVD to brush off the cobwebs and see what they can do.

Enjoy!

Talk Like a Pirate Day

Avast, Me Hearties!  In celebration of September 19th, I would like to wish everyone a happy “Talk like a Pirate Day!”  Ridiculous, maybe, but sometimes playing pirate releases the child in all of us.  I plan on going into the office, and driving staff a bit bonkers as I digress from my normally professional demeanor.  At least, until I have to go to a meeting or answer the phone, or send an email – basically all of 5 minutes at the beginning of the day.  However, it does start the day off with a smile!

This card was fun to make – lots of messy stamping and I got to use my skull die for something other than Halloween.  So Shiver Me Timbers and have a happy September 19th!

Congrats on Your New Home

Many of my friends and co-workers have recently purchased homes – which can be quite a struggle in California between the investors, flippers and the overpriced properties.  When somebody finally finds a home they want, and they win the bidding war, it is truly a time to celebrate!

I have had the stamp set, chipboard houses and paper for more than two years; I am so glad I finally put it all to good use!  Super easy coloring, using Stampin Up markers (so nice to step away from the more complicated Copics every once in a while).

Happy August, Happy Friendship Day

I know, the year is just skipping by, and now it is August!  I still have not planned a summer vacation, and I am certainly not ready for back to school - where has the time gone?

This month's card is for Friendship Day which is August 3rd.  Whether you are my family or a friend, you are all friends and part of my family - so happy Friendship Day.

The was a simple card using a Greeting Farm stamp "Geisha Anya", Basic Grey paper, and the cutest little ribbon flowers I purchased at the Scrapbook Expo last time it was in Pleasanton.  I had such fun with the Copic markers - still trying to master dark black hair.

Enjoy!

Playing with Faber-Castell Gelatos

I have had a glorious week of crafting!  The weather has been great, and in the evenings, I have felt creative.   Last week I received a DVD that I had ordered from Paper Wishes, Stamp Camp 2 - it is full of techniques grouped by tools.  The first chapter that caught my eye was the Faber-Castell Gelatos (I own so many colors and had no idea what to do with them) - so I had to share the pack of cards that I created.  Hope you are enjoying your summer!

Happy July 4th!

Happy 4th of July and happy July.  This month  I made a little patriotic card using The Greeting Farm Cheeky Mate stamp. I embossed a firework background in holographic embossing powder.  Then I used the 6X6 paper pad Market Square by Farm House Paper Company.

Now I just need to go grocery shopping for the barbecue this weekend - and make an icebox cake.  Enjoy the 4th and the summer!

June 2014

Happy June!

With graduations, birthdays and father's day - it is a very busy month!  I have already attended two college graduations, so very proud of the brilliant young ladies graduating - the future looks brighter just with the two of them in it!

I created the first card for the graduates - a little sassy card for all their hard work.  I used Cheeky Chat by the Greeting Farm for it, tailoring the coloring for the specific grad.

The next card is for my father, all DoodleBug except for the stamp - Perfect Fit- Dad by Close to My Heart.

The final card was for all the birthdays this month - I used only Close to My Heart products.

Hope everyone has a wonderful month!

Happy May Day!

Happy May Day!  Spring is here (or not) depending on where you live.   Today I am sharing a card that I created by random stamping in beautiful colors of inks (all Stampin Up!).  I added some card stock flags, a little white embossing and an acrylic card.  It came together so easily!

Happy Easter 2014

Easter is just around the corner and I wanted to share heartfelt greetings!  It has been warm and sunny in California, we are truly blessed and spoiled - even though we complain all the time about weather.  I have to remind myself that I have lived in many places, and I have stood at the school bus stop in the snow - so the weather where I live now is amazing!

Hope everyone is seeing some hints of springtime, and has plenty of chocolate eggs to find, hoard or share.  I know I have a basket full, thanks to a dear friend of mine!

April Fool's Day

April Fool's Day is a curious day, not quite a holiday, but definitely a fun break in the middle of "I really want spring to come"!  I hope everyone is having a little sunshine by now, although it is cold and raining here in Northern California.

Today's card is made using "wobblers" which are little plastic springs that enable the items glued to them to bounce.  I found a traditional Cheshire Cat stamp and decided that he (or is it a she?) would be perfect to pair with the silliness of the day.

Enjoy the card and keep looking for that first daffodil, spring has to be here soon!

Saint Patrick's Day

The first day of March, and my card for the month!  I hope everyone is safe and warm wherever you are.  Right now it is raining in Northern California, which is really a major thing since this has been such a dry year.

While I am not Irish (at least to my knowledge) - I chose Saint Patrick's Day to celebrate the month of March.  So I wish everyone luck of the Irish, and a wish for spring to make itself known - I want to start planting tomato plants soon (I am tired of the pale pink tomatoes in the grocery store)!

Valentine's Day 2014

Happy Valentine's Day to my family and friends!

This is one of my new year resolutions - start posting to my blog more frequently.  Welcome to the first of my new blog series - a year in cards - at least one new card a month celebrating the big and little holidays throughout the year.  My goal for my blog has always been to keep crafting and creating (and using up those piles of craft supplies) - and so I have  done away with the lists of the materials used and focused on the creating.

If anybody would like to know a specific supply or technique - please leave a comment and I will try my best to answer.  So here is to twelve more months of cards (and maybe a few extra thrown in)!
