4th of July

Have you tried a Close to My Heart (CTMH) Workshop on the Go?  Now that CTMH has upgraded their patterned paper to a two sided cardstock weight, I had to give their workshop kits a spin.  While I did not follow the workshop guide to make a layout – the exclusive stamp set in the kit, the patterned paper and the techniques in the full color instruction were perfect for a 4th of July card.  All I had to do was pull out a stamp set with the perfect sentiment and I was ready to stamp!

As always, I have a “lesson learned” from this crafting session – punch out circles of cardstock and then stamp the half scallops (or in my case the star scallops) onto the punched out circles.  I tried to stamp first then punch – but could punch close enough to the edge.

Pink Princess Birthday

Have I mentioned that I just love the Greeting Farm stamps?  This Princess Anya is just so perfect for all the princesses that I know (big and small). It actually looks cute as an embellishment for scrapbook pages, especially for those pages where certain mouse sanctioned princesses may have been photographed with a middle aged group of smiling idiots?!  I am not naming names, but I know who you are!  lol

The pack of patterned paper that I used came from another gift from my British craft magazine addiction (see earlier post).  Since I did not have chartreuse ribbon – I colored white May Arts crinkle ribbon with my Copic markers – once dry, you cannot even tell that the ribbon did not start off that color.  Then I went crazy with the gold stickles and the card took forever to dry!

In less than two weeks my big work project will kick off – we have been working on it for the past 2 years.  Talk about stress and so many things to get done!  Plus summer is here and it has been in the triple digits for almost a week.   I needed a little “vacation” so I created my own little day at the beach.

I dug out my color spritzer tool from Stampin Up for this card.  This tool can be used with most markers (Stampin Up markers and Copics - sketch and ciao are my choice in it) and the result is a perfect sand look.  It does a wonderful job on “sky” as well.  It gives a different effect compared to the Copic Airbrush system - a bit more texture.
When I was done coloring, I added Glossy Accents to her goggles and her flippers.  Hope you are having a great summer!

Under the Sea

Ever have one of those days at work – that lasts an entire week?  I did, and I really hope to never repeat it.  So I came home, and made some summery cards, and signed up for another online card class to take my cares away.  I am thrilled to take another one since I have not had time to take any online card classes since December!

I saw the printed paper and had to make undersea cards – the imagery was just amazing without being cartoony fishy.  Does that make sense?

These cards were super simple – the hardest part was cutting out the stamped images. The colors were so vibrant it was easy to pick out some scrap ribbon and brads.  Also, I should note that the paper was actually more like chipboard covered in paper, a thick postcard.  Since the two pieces were given to me in a class as extras – I do not have the original packaging for a “proper” name, but was thrilled with the bonus.

Birthday Princess in Blue

I just got back from taking care of a friend that had emergency surgery.  I should say “tried” since I never feel that I can do much but try and “feed and water” the patient, and then try to entertain them (being that I am not that entertaining).  As always, she was a marvelous hostess – even though she was supposed to be the patient, and was in pain so much of the time.  I am glad that I was able to try to assist – with a little laundry, grocery shopping and plant watering.

This card was created with a specific person in mind – a fan of Cinderella to be specific.  I enjoy making cards for specific people sometimes, because you can tailor the card to their likes.  After paper piecing the dress, I added some shimmer paper to the crown and dress – and then covered in Stickles, just to get the glitz that I wanted on the card.  This is a new hair color I am trying out for a lighter brown hair – I found the combination searching the blogs and then tweaked the colors slightly since I do not own all the copic colors (unlike several of my friends – yes, you know who you are!).  I really did not leave sufficient space for the sentiment – so it is squeezed onto the card.  Another learning lesson!
